Educational Technology

Yes, I'm into this too! As a matter of fact, I even have a M.Ed. with a specialty in this area. I believe the use of technology in education is STILL in its infancy. Teachers who are supposedly "on the cutting edge" are quite often doing things proposed years ago. Some EdTech ideas include:
  • Webquests-Send students across the world on the web to find information and solve problems related to ANY field. This technique is great for keeping students on track with a detailed structure.
  • Robotics-Teaches students physics, engineering, programming, problem solving, collaboration and MANY other skills.
  • Web Pages-Allows students to report findings, express themselves in a different way than the traditional "report".
  • Multi-media Presentations-No, I don't mean a boring PowerPoint presentation! Mutli-media is much more than a few slides with overused animations and sounds.
  • Online Testing--Check out an example of this here. (This was my final exam last semester. The results get sent to my email!)--Here is a sample report from the test.
The National Educational Technology Standards are sets of standards that students and teachers should be able to demonstrate.

Lego Robotics can play a major role in teaching students many skills.

Digital imaging is used widely in educational technology. Here is a picture taken with my Canon EOS "Digital Rebel" camera. The original picture was about 5 megabytes. By using Adobe PhotoShop I was able to reduce the size to about 16 kilobytes. Click the image below to see it enlarged.
