Location
of Signup Files
(note: I have
not made the files available for "Public Use" yet! See me
for the location)
The 502, 504 and 509 computer labs are available for sign-up.
T he location of the files are the T: drive in my TIS folder. The files
are called 504computerlabfall0809.xls, 502computerlabfall0809.xls and
509computerlabfall0809.xls.
New Teachers,
before you may sign up for using the labs you need to meet with the
me for a brief session on proper use and care of the labs. I will show
you how AB Tutor, the monitoring software, works. I will also go over
some key mistakes teachers make when signing up or using the labs.
Signing
up to use Labs
You open the file by finding in my TIS folder and double-clicking it--it
is an excel spreadsheet file. Please open the file, make your entry,
and then close quickly so others can get access. Only one person is
allowed "write" access at the time. This is why you may open
it and get the message about someone already having it opened. Please
don't sign up for more than 3 days in a row, or more than three
consecutive weekdays (like EVERY Wednesday in November, etc.). I will
add the procedures to the sign up files so you have access.
Keys
for the Labs
The keys are to be picked up and signed out
from the Media Center. They will hang on the bulletin board immediately
to the left as you enter the MC. Please be sure to sign the keys out
and in. Students MAY NOT pick up or bring back the keys.
Lab
Use
The computer labs should be used for educational purposes-not as a "reward"
or "funtime". With limited computer resources, it is vital
that the labs be left open for projects, research, Online lessons (RiverDeep),
etc.
Substitutes
using Labs?
According to Lexington
One Substitue Policies, Substitues are not to use computers--Therefore,
they should not take students to Computer Labs. They are not trained
to use the labs with students.
Please
watch students and don't let them download files and/or load AOL instant
messenger, Yahoo instant messenger, etc. They MUST refrain
from changing settings on the computer (e.g. screen savers, backgrounds,
etc.). If a screensaver or desktop background is different on one
or two computers, and it was not like that when you brought your class
in, then YOUR student(s) changed it. Please deal with this issue.
Saving
Files
Students
should save files to the "Student Shared Folder" also know
as the S: drive. Teachers should create a folder by naming it their
last name. Then it is a good idea to create sub folders for each period.
ONE VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: All students can access these
files. My advice is to PLAN ahead and copy your folder(s) to the T:
drive (While logged in as you at the Teacher Station in each
lab).
Turning
Off Computers
The last class of the day should turn off the computers.
To determine if YOU are the last class of the day, look at the correct
file on the T: drive. If you are finished and not coming back, and there
are no other classes coming in, you should have the computers shut down.
Make sure ALL computers shut down before you leave.
Logging
In-Teachers
Teachers may log in as themselves for full access to student folders
and teacher folders. Be SURE to log off before you leave the room--You
do not want to allow students or other unauthorized persons access to
the teacher folders, etc.
Logging
In-Students
Students log in as directed by your TIS. Information is not given here
as this is a public site.
Checklist:
__Make sure all students save files to their personal
drives AND your folder structure on the Student shared (S:) drive.
__There should be NO screensavers on-they are not needed
__All desktops should look the same-no pictures or different
colors
__If you are the last one out for the day, turn all
computers off
